So after a years' break....

I am now back to attending to my on-going TR7 restoration.
Last year I took the engine & box out, this years' progress is headlamp and front bumper removal....

And maybe the front wings!

So the previous restorer gave my TR7 bolt-on front wings, so removed bolts & drilled/chiselled out about 20 rivets as well.

wing is now detached from the sill, inner wheelarch and headlamp panel, but is still stuck fast to the top of the inner wing.

I think some bonding material has been used to seal/stick the top edge of the wing.

Does anyone have any ideas how I free the wing without destroying it (it's pretty much perfect) or without setting my garage on fire ??

Wing is coming off BTW so I can see what the dodgy patches are on the inner wing.

TIA
Stu

You may know this already, but the front wings were unusual in that they were supplied complete with a welded flange and were welded to the inner wing on the vertical. supercass

Using a spot weld bit Drill the welds out at the vertical flange at the top of the inner wing and remove the wing complete with the drip channel, when you re fit you can plug weld through the holes.

So it currently looks like :

I'm not aware of any welds that need drilling out.
Remember someone else has been 'at it' before....

There were 2 brackets c/w bolts to hold the wing to the A-post as well, taken those off so the only thing holding the wing in place is along the top edge.

I don't really want to have to chisel my way along the top rail, that will mess up the top of inner channel of the wing.

Thoughts most appreciated.

cheers

By "top edge" do you mean where the bolts were? Did somebody use panel adhesive to glue the panel previous to bolting it down?

Hi Stu,
You could try heating along the chanel with an electric heat gun,
this genrally breaks down most adhesives and sealers.
But how has the wing been atached too the inner wheel arch on the curved lip?

Regards Scott.
