are there even more bicycles out there on a sunny Sunday morning?

Just taken the 7V8 out to get rid of the cobwebs between my ears, (lovely crisp morning here in South West Herts) and there's groups of middle aged men in lycra 2 or 3 abreast around every corner.

The highway code says something like "never ride more than two abreast, and ride in single file on narrow or busy roads and when riding round bends". The new age Bradleys are putting themselves in danger so beware the cyclist everyone

Oh dear, sounds like the bicycle tourists/terrorists have found their way from the Low Countries to your little Island [}:)]
They have been a pain in the @rse over here for as long as I can remember [B)]

HA! That would be me! [:D] Although I usually reserve Sundays for mountain biking, and save the road bike for the 15mile commute to work. And I also hate when cyclists spread across the road.

Cyclists don't seem to have the same status in the uk as those in France where they are practically on a par with the sacred cows of India.
Running over a cyclist in France is the only crime which still merits the Guillotine.[:D]

I'm a cycling enthusiast also. If I'm not driving my TR8 in summer then I'm probably riding my bicycle. I also ride with a big group but we're not generally rude. I'd have to say it works both ways - some motorists are quite clueless when it comes to cyclists.

x2 --- sometimes its hard to chose which "vehicle" to take !

My bike is also my daily driver weather permitting, and when I attach the double "trail-a-bike" to the back, it becomes the recreational transportation of choice when I need to go somewhere with the kids !

I used to think some cyclists were rude, didn't think road rules applied to them etc, until I used my bike recently, I had to jump traffic lights as there sensors didn't see me. Also bad road management by local council have half hearted measures or afterthoughts for cyclists, incomplete cycle lanes etc. Holland is a lot more cycle friendly unless Mr Beans is driving along a cyclepath

In general the Netherlands are very bicycle friendly with a good network of bicycle paths.
So it is rather annoying when groups of bicycle terrorists (the larger the group the worse) don't use them because they are not wide enough ...
Oh the joys of a utilitarian looking Defender [}:)]

The problem is that we don't score enough points for a cyclist. If we got a higher score, I'm sure we could get more of them.

I think cyclists are OK in their place - which is not on the roads!
Around here we have a number of roads which have been narrowed for vehicles to provide a double width footpath, all marked out as cycle and pedestrian lanes, at great expense. Then you get a number of stupid cyclists who insist on riding down the road which is too narrow to get past them with traffic coming in the opposite direction. They don't seem to appreciate the friendly blast on the horn and indication for them to get in their place when you do manage to get past them.
In London they get squashed regularly by trucks turning left who cannot see them in their blind spot, but they still insist on sliding up the gap between the truck and the kerb even though they know the driver cannot see them. Then they want us to pay for special lanes to be created for them (which some will not then use).
All adult cyclists should be licenced and taxed to use the roads and carry insurance to pay for damage to vehicles and cleaning up the mess they leave when hit.
Sorry, rant over but had another one blocking the road this morning!

You don't see a lot of cyclists around here, certainly not in bunches, perhaps more in Victoria where Rydal Hesjedal came from (winner of last years Giro d'Italia) although he now lives and trains in Hawaii. Perhaps it's the longer distances or the up and down hills (although it's perfect for the serious rider). We have the wide enough roads and the paved shoulders for the bikes. Not a problem. The only problem is the electric carts of the older folk with collision with cars as they cross intersections being fairly regular.
