The secret is out

Well I can finally reveal a TR7 secret that I have been sworn to since the middle of last year.

Via another forum, a Ford one, I received a random pm, the sender asked me if I owned a java TR7, TAO208R, and if so he had some interesting information for me. I replied and said that I did own the car.

The guy then gave me a call and said he worked for a design agency that was contracted to Corgi, the company had decided to produce a Java green 1:43 TR7 and this design agency had found a picture of my car on the net. They put it forward to Corgi as the car to base the model on and it was accepted.

They then sent me all the detail design drawings and asked me to correct any inaccuracies , within manufacturing abilities.

This was followed up by several calls for info regarding the car and Speke TR7's in general for the advertising campaign.

I was asked to keep everything a secret.

Anyway last week I was again contacted and told that I was added to the list to receive free samples of the model so I thought it must be getting near production.

I did an Internet search today and found that orders are now being taken, TAO208R lives in 1:43 scale......

Unfortunately, and I am gutted, about two weeks before I got the initial message from the design agency I sent the logbook back to DVLA advising them that TAO was no more and it had been scrapped about 2 years earlier [:(]

Anyway, here's the wee car, and wife

Shame the car isn't around any more. I would have been cool at a car show to have the model displayed along with the car it was based on.[:(]

Very cool indeed. Now I wish someone would do a pair of open and closed Wedges in 1/18 scale .

I agree, 1/18th would be good. I still like that model and can't wait to get one.

'Paradoxically early Speke built cars which featured a satin-black rear-panel, larger petrol-cap, single bulge bonnet and steel wheels with black-plastic centres are now prized by enthusiasts who appreciate their unadulterated spoiler-free form as the purest incarnation of designer Harris Mann’s vision.'

Nicely put - even if only half a dozen or so of us have seen the light!

I have no doubt an original Speke TR7 will soon be the one everyone will be crying out for.

A very nice looking model in a great colour(never thought I'd say that) about Green, but I will be buying one as well.

Paul, you will have to bring another early Java beauty back to life as a way of recompense. I think ACG 342 is still on ebay waiting for you.[:p]

Roy, I keep my eye on the market and if the right car came along I would be easily swayed, looking back and knowing what I know now TAO should never have been stripped and sacrificed to build the red V8. TAO donated its roof skin and many other components to that project and paid the ultimate price.

I now have a concours, low mileage Porsche but there's room in the garage to squeeze a TR7 next to it.

Cheers, Paul

There is something weird about this.. I have a modern Mercedes sportscar but would rather drive the Tr7. Ruddy has a Porsche but still wants a Tr7. Mercs and Porches are generally considered to be good cars. Tr7's generally considered to be bad cars. Most people would surely consider us insane.

Yes croydebay & I have a Honda S2000, which I chose over the full range of modern sports cars, but if push came to shove, & I had to get rid of some cars, it would be the TR7 I kept.

My Integra is comfy to drive and my Tercel 4X4 is great in the snow but my TR7 is the only car that makes me make vrooomy sounds when I'm driving it.[:)]

I have a very nice low mileage '99 M3 garaged while the DHC gets used and the FHC gets worked on. The M3 is almost too good. It lacks the soul of a restored car.
