My car obviously with the engine choice is never going to be an historic rally car, so i dont need to go for the monte carlos.

I am interested in some of the more modern open back 5000 radial mount series. These are about £400 a caliper, which i'm happy enough to pay.

I just wanted to know if there was an off the shelf kit, anyone had made up bells or had some dont before because if i could but bells i could mount the caliper to suit.

Anyone any other information for me?

Im keen to go AP.. Im not sold on the wilwood or HiSpec kits.

Beans, you do have to be a bit careful with bells. I got given some really nice big AP radial calipers and discs off the Mitsubishi WRC cars in 1992 (they threw them away after a couple of events) and we made some lovely aluminium bells to use them on my Cossie.
However, on day two at 24hrs of Ieper one of the front discs broke which made us a bit nervous for the rest of the day.
We identified the problem afterwards as being caused by the heat build-up and different expansion between the aluminium and the steel disc.
Found some proper AP bells (Mitsubishi freebie again) and machined them to Ford spacing. The AP bells were much thinner than ours and had diagonal slots between the 12 disc bolts to allow movement. No further problems.

I still have the disc (sorry Hasbeen) and I'll put a picture in my Black Museum for you.

Have you seen a set installed before? I used to own a 20vt coupe so I am familiar with the setup,

Can anyone tell me what the disc pattern is on the tr7? The same as the PCD? Dispite being mounted on the back of the hubs?

Thx for the warning, but the set up has on the car for 6 years now without problems.
And the bells have a centring ridge for the discs and slightly oversized holes.

As for your disc failure, that might well be caused by the fact that they were drilled, probably the reason why they chucked them away after a few events.
Especially as they had been used in (should I say fierce?) competition.
That's why I use grooved instead of drilled discs.

I never actually found them that good on the Coupe, but it was 350hp as well on standard pads [:0] Some DS2500's would probably have changed that!

The BMW engine runs 300hp standard, hoping to achieve around 350 from it and get the car down to around 920kgs.

At the moment i'm looking at a set of MGTF Trophy AP's they are designed to work with a 305mm vented disc.. they could be a good starting point calliper wise. I think i will just pick up a set from eBay and do some testing, worst case scenario i have to sell them on again.

Yes Beans we thought that too and ran solid discs afterwards just to be sure and they were just as good.

For anyone interested in an AP brake setup, Alastair Flack at Hamilton classics is looking on a set of bells and Caliper carriers to mount radial fit 6r4 style open back calipers on a 295/304mm disc to work under 15" wheels.

HiSpec do a complete kit that bolts straight on a TR7/8

http://www.hispecbrake.co.uk/TR7300M.html

And the "smaller" of the two option fits inside 15" wheels ...

Image

Don't know about the 6 pot callipers though ...
