T-tops or Targa

Has anyone ever made a t-top or true targa out of a 7? Haven't seen any pics so I was just wondering. It would be cool to have the same top as the 2nd gen RX7, top up/targa panel removed/everything lowered. That was an amazingly cool top

<font face="Comic Sans MS"><font size="2">There have been a few attempts at targa top conversions of TR-7 FHCs
None too successful I suspect!
Where I think they went wrong was using the FHC, a better way would be to modify a hard top to fit on a DHC, a bit like the TR-4s Surrey Top set up.
By using the DHC you aren't butchering the car just the hardtop, so your not devaluing the car or doing major structural changes to the car which may not please the registration authorities.
Just a thought!</font id="size2"></font id="Comic Sans MS">

Cobber's right. Even just the addition of a sun roof to the FHC reduced the torsional stiffness 40% (Untold Story) so better to start with the DHC which already has the extra stiffening panels and you just increase from there with the T top. While the TR5/250 surrey top would be easier (as in the link) you'd get more stiffness from a T top and it would be one step closer to the Broadside.

In the Haynes Motor Museum in Somerset (UK) there is a TR8 DHC with a Stag type T top. I believe that this was factory fitted as an experimental "one off".

Certainly would be better to start with a DHC having already got the extra sill strengtheners & the B post bracing. I should think if you just cut the roof of a FHC it would be quite bendy in the middle!

I built a T-Bar for my TR7 Convertible...a bit rough but it made an amazing difference.
