Stag Video - HELP!

Posted: 30 Nov 2012 10:02
by John Clancy
Over the past year or so I've been putting together a Stag film for the Stag Owners Club. I shot the whole thing in 1080 line high definition and it runs about 36 minutes. Whilst I am able to run this from YouTube in 1080 lines people are reporting that they are restricted to 360 lines. Can anyone who reads this take a look at the video at the base of www.triumphdvd.co.uk and let me know if you can run it in hidef or are restricted to 360 lines.

Thank you in anticipation.

Not sure how you tell. I ran it full screen on my laptop which has a HDTV 16:9 screen (not the 16:10 of most widescreen laptops/computer screens) and it looked pretty good no bars.

I absolutely refuse to view any kind of 'Stag' film. I am far beyond the point in my life that would find any merit to such an adult interest.

Isn't this supposed to be a forum for English sports cars, specifically Triumph sports cars with a distinct wedge shape styling?

I was forced to 360p on my 4:3 screen. That didn't stop me from thoroughly enjoying it though. Very nicely done. Stags are a lot more difficult to come by over on this side of the pond. I don't think I've ever seen more than six of them at any event I've been to. Someday I'd like to find one for myself.

Watching using the embedded player or from Youtube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RJZXJco4HRM) it only offered 240 or 360 progressive line resolution (240p/360p).

Interestingly, the MAMHEAD HILL CLIMB video offered 480p in addition to 240p and 360p.

Did you upload in 1080 interlaced or progressive?

OK, now I get it. Was offered in up to 480p which I ran it in. Woner why it's different for different people?

Yes, this is the problem I cannot understand - most people only have the option for up to 360 line resolution whereas I can run it up to 1080 lines. I can confirm I did upload it in full hidef using the master M2T file.

At first I looked the problem up and the results from searches advised any file over 2GB would only be available in standard definition regardless owing to the space a full blown high definition video would take up. This is entirely understandable but doesn't explain why I and others can view it in 1080 lines apparently randomly. Interestingly it is only available to me in 1080 using Mozilla Firefox whereas Internet Explorer is restricted to 360.

I uploaded the file using the SOC user ID so they would have full control from their club web site so I can't see that it has anything to do with me being the owner as I use my usual user ID when I'm in YouTube. All very strange but thanks for the help so far chaps and chapettes.

Both using Firefox and different resolution choices. Looks like that's not it. I got 480 using Google Chrome. Thought we had something there for a minute. Might it be something to do with speed of service provider automatically sensed by Youtube? I use Shaw. There is a speed test site I could find and post so we use the same one. If we used the same test website and match our download speeds to resolution that might tell us if that is it.

That is worth a try FI Spyder. But I feel if it was a speed of connection issue I wouldn't have different results with different browsers.

Perhaps I'll re-compile it as a crappy MP4 file and see if that uploads more successfully.
