Hi,
How difficult would it be to remove the 4 speed manual tranny out of a '76 TR7 and install an automatic tranny from a '77?
Are the flywheels the same? The cross member? Has anyone ever done this swap?
Thanks.

Hi,

Never done it, but will req -
Gearbox,(later gearboxes 81 on were better ), with harness, selector, bolts ect
Flexi Plate ( instead of flywheel )
Propshaft
Pedal Box
Oil Cooler
The Auto runs a different rear end ratio
Kick down cable and linkages

Best bet would be a donor car i guess, as there is always something you forget about !

Cheers John

Auto's are quite rare (only two in BC). Do you have one? A friend in Vancouver has one and I was following it to a barbecue once and was surprised at it's get up and go (I was expecting less). Why would you want an auto unless it's for the wife (she might want power steering as well). Wife drove friends Porsche 944 with auto but couldn't shift it by herself as the spring in the shifter release button was too stiff (she has arthritis in her hands from her years in the trade bindery).

John's Cars recommends an auto (GM) with the Buick V-6 as it's got lots of torque and is a good fit operationally.
