carburator

I have zenith carb and I am trying to adjust the needle with the special tool I am engaging the outer tube and the allen parts in middle but cannot turn the tools I am affraid of braking thing is it supposse to be that tight another thing I did put a carburator kit previously and I notice there was a screews on the side of barrel is that locking the needle??? Should I loosen that screew before adjusting the needle??

Yes, but not too much. Leave enough of a drag on the needle holder so it won't slip when the tool is disengaged.
!!!Please note!!! Tinkering with the mixture setting without an understanding of either the;
1. Spark plug readings.
2. Exhaust gas color as seen thru the air rail holes on the side of the cylinder head.
3. An exhaust gas analyzer taking samples from the #1 & #4 cylinders,
will leave you completely in the dark for the next 14 years as you continually reset the mixtures trying to get it back to the original factory settings.
This is the 'REAL BIG DEAL' of a TR7 and the single biggest cause of their demise as a reliable car back in the 1970's. Messing with the carburetors can be hazardous to your mental health.

I will remove the plug beside spark plug to check fire color to bring to bleu now it seem to running rich and puffing black smoke and smell too plus gas consuption is not to good..
