Hi all, I am thinking about installing electric windows in the V8
and I seem to recall there was a thread sometime ago on the suject.
I know Odd has them on his car has any body else fitted them successfully? If so did you buy a kit or fit them from another car if so what make or type.
Any information gratefully received on the subject.[;)]

Yes. - Kit from Moss...

(It was part of a set of kits with Alarm, Immobiliser, Keyless entry, Electric windows, Remote luggage lid etc...)

Was there ever any cars fitted from the factory with electric windows? (prototypes, development cars etc.)

There was/is a Brooklands green ACT TR8 convertible in New Jersey that has electric windows and if you look at the backside of the radio center consoul you will see knock-outs for the switches on the left and right sides. Technically all TR7s and TR8s are electric window friendly.

I recall Chris Turner telling me there were a few cars fitted with electric windows at the end of the production run, not sure if these were production cars or experimental/development though.

Never seen one of these, although as Odd says there was an aftermarket kit available from Moss in the past.

I was thinking f doing this too. However, one time that I was at robsport, I mentioned this and they said that it was not too good an idea as getting it right was really hard.

I agree that it is hard to get right. I used a universal kit, the type with a motor and flexible drive that rotates the existing winder mechanism, and had to do a bit of cutting to get it mounted inside the door. Maybe there are more suitable conversions than the one I used.

Hi Odd it seems that Moss no longer do the electric windows kit.
I will check with S&S if they still sell the kit as I was talking to another wedge owner and he said S&S had supplied his kit.
No rush to get this job done just thought it would be a nice addition to the car.

Hi Moe, that would have been me at the Chipping Sodbury Classic car run.

I got my kit from S&S, they were working on how to fit the kit when I got mine. It was a bit fiddly to fit, have to remove the large hex bit that the normal handle sits on and fit an adaptor. The adaptor was not a great fit and stripped so I ended up pegging it which worked well.

The problem is aftermarket kits are only just powerful enough, so you have to make sure the window moves freely with virtualy no resistance. My drivers side works perfectly but the passenger side can drag unless the engine is running, it did rub on the side impact bar and it may still need adjusting.

You could look at the Spal website or others (Zekow I think) have managed to source parts from modern cars.

I wouldn't go back to manual, the main reason I went down this route is because with the top down somtimes I like the windows up and sometime down, and I can't reach the passenger side window when driving [:D]

Hi Moe,

I adapted an electric window winder/motor from a Rover SD1, its quite easy to do, they are cheap to buy and it replaced the weak TR7 winder. All the kits seem to use the original TR7 winder which I'm sure will let it all down. The SD1 replaces it completely.

Yea, I've just seen your info in the link I put above to the old posting, it did look a good well made set up and would probably be the ultimate set up, its a shame its no longer around.

Does it have any manufacturing info on it, like who made it?
Also the electric window switches look really neat.

Thanks everybody for all the info,certainly plenty to think about,I had a phone call from Rick at S & S to let me know he has a second hand kit from a 7 and was I interested,you could say that I certainly am ha ha.[;)]
