Hi,

First thing i would do is download a copy of the workshop manual of my learned friends JClay site -

https://docs.google.com/folder/d/0B8MWE ... edit?pli=1

A straight forward job if you have been around car's for a while, make sure you use spring compressors, a lad at work has just had to have section of jaw bone replaced when a spring slipped whilst replacing a insert and hit him in the face [xx(]

Worth considering fitting either roller or needle bearing kit at the top of the strut, IMHO makes steering a bit lighter. I fitted this kit from Robsport -

Sometimes the nut holding the insert can be tight, in this case try holding the nut in the vice and turning the strut.

Cheers John

also don't over tighten the nuts on teh 3 mounting plate studs protruding through the turret tops - these studs are very soft (on teh new ones I bought anyway) and the threads are very easy to run...

The insert nut John mentioned is also sometines locked by 'dimples' punched in the tube. These need to be drilled out if they are locking it hard.

I also found the the top nut on the strut very tight and the cup washer slots were not sufficient to hold and allow it to be turned. I used an impact driver on the bench in the end but in future will apply the impact driver before removing the strut to just slacken the nut slightly.

I would loctite the nut that holds in the strut insert as both Ron (Orange Rag) and I have had one come loose. Probably the reason for the dimple from the factory (cost too much for loctite). [:p]

Thanks for returning the sig pic Clay, and for the extensive database. Really helpful when I rebuilt the rear brakes a few weeks ago.

Oops, seems to have gone again.

You have to fix it in your profile.

Your signature picts are linked to a "storage" site. If the site changes like Saabfast's did when Apple closed down jclay's site where it was stored. If you look up at top right you will see Profile, click on that and it will take you to your profile where you set up info about yourself including your "signature" that appears when you post. This you would have done some time in the past.

Growing old is a terrible thing.[:p]
