pressure plate?

Went for a fun drive the other afternoon as as i pulled on to my street the clutch went dead.

What happens is that the clutch will not engage. it is the opposite of sticking to the pressure plate, it feels like it is not even touching the pressure plate. The car stars and runs great, I can shift into any gear but when I push down the clutch pedal nothing happens. the pedal feels a lot lighter than normal (as in takes much less force) with the pedal all the way down you can hear what sounds like the clutch just about to bite and if you hold it then eventually you will smell it. with the pedal all the way up (not being touched) you can shift but get no motion at all.

There are no leaks, the clutch fluid looks good and is not low.

to summarize; the car has not motion (forward or reverse), when you depress the clutch pedal it sounds like it is getting close to touching but that is the opposite of what should be happening when you press the clutch pedal.

I am thinking this is the pressure plate failed but I am not sure. I am looking for any suggestions possible.

When the fork wore through the pivot on mine, the pedal went all the way down, then returned all the way back up and went solid.............

Could be completely shot master or slave seals, or the connecting pipe ballooning with pressure, although that normally does give some operation before it splits.

The Hydraulic System dis-engages the clutch...if the pedal is up and there is no motion a broken pressure plate is usually the cause.

Possibly the slave cylinder has siezed in the outward position as well.

It happened to mine recently and it was just a case of removing it, freeing up the piston and refitting and rebleeding.
Job done.
