Oil Problems

Postby RJS » 19 Apr 2012 16:54

When I backed the 8 out of the garage on the way to work this morning, I noticed a line of oil following the car. I stopped and looked under the car and there was already a small puddle forming. I quickly shut it down and pushed it back into the garage. Didn't have time to look at anything because I had to get to work.

Looks like I now have weekend plans to look into this. All I know at this point is that it is coming from the passenger side of the engine (LHD). I hope is coming from something simple like the oil pressure sensor.

It is a good thing I noticed that as I was backing up. Could have turned out much worse.

Doesn't look like an oil problem to me, more like a leak [:p] oil filter maybe?
Indeed a good thing you noticed it in time.

If lucky - it will just be the oil filter bowl top seal..........

It was the oil pressure sending unit - pouring right out of it. Ordered a part from NAPA yesterday, got here today. Put it in, and no more leak.

Took it for a spin, and in about 20 minutes the engine stopped. Pretty sure litle / no fuel getting to the engine. I know on TR8s the system must show oil pressure, or it turns off the fuel pump, but I am sure I can hear the pump going back there.

Have to help a friend move this afternoon (of course he has to move the first day it will break 100'), so I am not sure if I will have time to look into it today. It is acting like a fuel filter, so hopefully it will be a simple thing like that.
