Painting wheels

So I'm looking at getting my wheels painted. Original alloys (Spider) and am looking for advice. Should I get them painted or powder coated? I've seen my garage spray paint a set from another Spider and they looked really good. I'm just wondering if one method has an advantage over the other. I'm assuming they were originally spray painted from the factory.

how good they will turn out (and last) depends mostly on the initial prep and quality of materials used .....Imho, unless you are extremely hard on your wheels (ie racing) I don't think the extra expense of powdercoating your cars rims would be really worth it.

I painted my Triumphs plastic wheel discs about 6 years ago in two stage base-clear and they have held up very well even with repeated pressure washes and tire cleaning products....I've even painted my Focus rims with a rattle can with good lasting results and with that car I drove it in a much harder environments than my TR ever gets subjected to!

If you don't intend on doing it yourself, most large towns have Rim Repair Specialist's that should easily be able to handle wheel restorations, in my area the tab would be about 125$ per wheel for a standard refurbishing.

Thanks, that's about what I was thinking. I've had one quote of $130 per wheel if I do all 5. That didn't include taking the tires off and remounting them. I think I'll go with my garage since they do all the other work on the car and I KNOW they know what they're doing.

Ha! I saw those the other day. The only problem is mine are the Spider specific wheels and I dont want to give up that originality. That and shipping would be massively expensive! Those look great though, all nice and shiny. Can't wait till mine look that good.
