So, how bad of a job is replacing the rear wheel cylinders? I did a rebuild kit a few years back, but, they still seep a little fluid.

Will I dread this job? Special tools? Clay, is there a special badge for this job? LOL

If you've ever done drum brakes, it isn't really any different. The trickiest part is getting the e-clip back on. Clay has a good write-up, and a trick to get that clip back on:

I like the e-clip tool. Where do I find that?

I've done the brakes before, it was actually the first job I did sine the rear brakes were seized up.

Thanks for the help. I was hoping not to take apart the whole assembly to replace the cylinders. Wish me luck wth that.

I use this tool I bought for $5.95 at Liquidation World. Took me less than a minute. You can use it for lots of other things as well. It has long handles about 14" I'd say, for precise control of the jaws. You can find it at any local tool shop, but probably a little more money.

Not at home at present so do you know the outer diameter of the conical end piece & thread of tightening bolt ?

Will see if I can knock one up in the Workshop - was a swine when I did my Brake Cylinder last year & e-clip is I feel too bent for my liking so needs a new one.
Tool will save my fingers / temper

Now, Boys! In fact the all around best way to fix your rear brakes is to send the brake cylinders off to places like White Post Restorations or Apple Hydraulics or some such, and have the bores lined with either a brass or stainless steel sleeve. This will eliminate the corrosion factor present with the standard iron bore.

On to the second choice; install a new standard iron bore wheel cylinder.

Finally, the old El-Cheapo remedy is to hone the cylinders on the car and fit a new rubber seal kit.

So, my dear Hot-Shot, what's it agonna be? The more you pay, the better your option.

Any one doing their rear wheel cylinders should pull up the old posts of our dear departed Ally Hickman, detailing her frustration with those clips. She had me laughing out loud, with here, not at her. She was a peach.
