windscreen pump

Everything works on my car except the windscreen washer pump. I disassembled it and found that the small impeller in not rotating even thought the motor functions correctly. The impeller has a small plastic insert in the center hole with a flat which slides over the shaft of the motor allowing the motor to turn the impeller. The problem is that the flat has worn round and now the shaft rotates but can not turn the impeller. This part is tiny but critical.

Has anyone found a fix for this problem?

I found the entire pump on Ebay for US$28. Sounds like the way to go. But it sure would be nice to come up with a repair for a perfectly good motor and impeller. It's just that small plastic insert that ruins the whole thing. For a minimalist like there must be a field fix.

Be happy it's just the pump. If it were a BMW you'd have to replace everything under the hood as one item.[:p]

There are cheaper universal pumps available from VB etc.

The usual stockists in the UK have the pump for much less than $28 so suggest you check them as well.

Or go for a much more efficient and much cheaper modern universal pump.
