Interior door lights

What replacement interior lights for the doors do people use?

I have one from a Saxo (?) sold to me by S&S but there's no switch on it which I would prefer so I can use when the doors are shut!

Mine are the same as Beans - off some European car and obtained from the my usual southern TR7 parts supplier. They fit in the same hole but the trim was black instead of chrome.

I got mine from Robsport. They needed to be filed down a bit to fit in the wholes, but once done they fitted nice and look good. They have three settings; on all the time, open with the doors and off. I had a look at them and they look like they are from the French side of things lol.

A further question - on my DHC they won't work with the doors open.

I have checked and there's no power at the courtesy light switch in the door pillar but I havn't been able to trace the wire back into the loom or to find it on the wiring diagram.

Neither does there appear to be a fuse just for these lights so I can't replace that.

Any advice?

The switch in the pillar does not have power, it is the earth point for the courtesy light operation apart from the position where it is permanently on (which earths through the door to the body IIRC). Power goes to the light unit and then follows an earth path dependent on the position it is switched to.

Alan is right, the A post plunger switch is an earth.

IIRC in the door loom the purple and purple/white wires should be live all the time, the black in the door loom is the earth for the light if it is on with the door shut (purple), & the A post plunger is the earth for the door open function (purple/white).

So check for power at the purple leads to start with, Martin. If no power then you will need to find the car end of that door sub loom which joins under the dash I believe, and trace it from there. I think that ultimately those purple wires are fused at the fusebox, but cannot recall which fuse off the top of my head. Has your fuse box cover got a fuse layout chart on it?

I believe they are Peugot / Talbot parts, and as, if I recall correctly they are stamped 'Talbot' they must be of some age. (NOS?)
I've not seem them anywhere else in the U.K. other than Robsport. Theye are as near identical to the original as you are likely to find. I'm planning on spraying the black surrounds on mine with chrome effect paint to mimic the original. They do need different connectors at the back, but this is no big deal. Other vendors only seem to supply the non switching type, which I feel are a poor substitute and poor value. supercass

Thanks to everyone here as well as a PM on another forum and an email (you kow who you are) I have finally realised how thick I am[:I]

Strangely,I thought that two wires both of which had purple in them would/should both be live whereas the one that was black would be the only earth.

Hence I had the black earth wire to the single contact on the lamp and the two purple "live" ones to the other two connections. I was then wondering why there was no power to the purple/white wire[:I]

Now I have realised there are two earth wires and only one power I have the lights connected correctly, I have cleaned up the courtesy light switches and guess what - yes, courtesy lights that work[:)]
