fuel-injected TR7/TR8 experiment?

Dave Massey and I are trying to sort out the feedback monitor port on the <b>fuel injected</b> TR7. Even though the wiring colors on the TR7 are the same as on the TR8 (minus the "left" bank-of-4 wire), the voltages at the pins are *different* than the TR8. Can't find any mention of it anywhere on any website, nor in the factory manuals, so we're experimenting a bit. On the FI TR8 those voltages go from 0-5V. Seems they go higher on the FI TR7.
So, if anyone out there has a voltmeter and doesn't mind probing that port (dangling down near the passenger footwell) to measure some voltages for us, please contact me? We have just ONE data point, Dennis McKinley's car, and we'd like to measure voltages on a few more. I know lots of cars are away for the winter up here in the northern hemisphere but we're hoping some of you sunny people are still driving your FI cars!
Seems the TWOA "gizmo" may need to be modified to work with the TR7!

I'm not quite sure what's involved, car's laid up for winter projects and am working toward a deadline to to get second and hopefully final approval on electrical permit for downstairs and garage. After that I'll be stripping out interior to pull dash. I take it the car has to be running? Port dangling from dash? I think Zeke is familiar with all this working through his trials and tribulations. I'll take a look in my Bosch FI manual and see if there is any specs.
It seems to me that if the voltage is flicking on and off between zero and whatever with a voltmeter you'll get a an average what with the LCD delay. You'd need a scope to get an accurate reading.

Jim,
Mine is down for the winter as well but I might be able to do some tests still, probably after Christmas as my wife has found the car makes a wonderful shelf for storing Christmas boxes at the moment. Is the monitoring circuit plug floating around right by the ECU? When I can I will look for it. With a bum Auxilliary Air Valve shes a might cold blooded but I think I can get her going and help you out. Should be interesting.

Thanks for the replies guys. I can assure you the little LED thing works FISpyder, I've tuned my TR8s with it and have seen an analog Lucas thing (not an Epitest) which measures the same thing. I'll try and revisit this again after the holidays or in springtime when cars are again running. Meanwhile, DO check out the ROM, it's described in there

I was looking throught my photos after I read this and found this mystery connector next to the Computer. Does everybody have this ??or did the Previos owner place it there?
And Then?? What the hell is it for??

Blue/yellow
Blue /Orange or red?

That's the right connector.
To date, we have two cars which read 6.6 Volts DC between the Black and Blue/orangestripe wires at idle, car cold, feedback loop not working. The other wire (Blue/yellowstripe) is battery voltage for powering things like the "gizmo" and the Epitest and similar testers. By the way, the colors changed mid-1981. Measure between the two OUTSIDE pins on the connector and you'll be ok.
FYI, that control voltage wiggles around a LOT when you try and measure it. Use a high impedance digital multimeter if possible and don't be dismayed if, once the car warms up, the voltage reading wiggles around a lot. That means your feedback loop is working. Try and get an average voltage reading. The gizmo helps because it "bins" voltages (1-2 Volts lights up the first LED, etc).

OK, we're making good progress. It would be good to get a few more data points. It seems that the feedback monitor voltage on the TR7 (being an analogue system) varies from 0 to roughly battery/system voltage instead of the 0-5V like on the TR8.
We need a couple more fuel injected TR7s to measure some voltages for us and then we'll be ready to build a TR7 gizmo!
Anyone out there got one and is handy with a voltmeter?
