Just cruising cars for sale.. always hankered after a beige one and saw this for sale. Ad says totally original etc. etc. but the steering wheel is wrong for an '82. Anybody know at what point it changed? The nose badge looks to be too far forward too..

Agree, steering wheel is canley or pre 81, front badge too low, probable respray.
Interior door handles and small instruments correct as is boot lock.
Triumph did mix and match towards the end. I have a late fuel gauge but earlier volt andtemp gauge. Suspect it is late, best check the chassis no, mines about 4000 from end of production at Solihull.

Not totally original then! From my reckoning and I may be wrong, the colour coded hood cover was only available for the early Solihull models, the later ones being black only. What colour is the hood? I would expect that to be the same colour as the cover. I would check the VIN number to be sure it is one of the last produced. Odd about the steering wheel, it does seem to be from a Canley model, although I'm not sure if the silver trim on later models was just glued over the old style steering wheel. The cruise lights are of course non original. Other clues to it being a later Solihull model are that it will have pictoral displays on the warning lights and a quartz clock. The beige is an attractive colour and as far as I am aware was a fairly late addition to the range. In reality in terms of interior trim by todays standards they were not particularly durable and it is possible that bits and pieces of interior trim may have been replaced. Even at just 51k I would expect the drivers seat to show noticeable signs of wear. If the car is generally up to scratch I would'nt worry about these minor differeces, although it would be interesting to know why someone has apparently changed the steering wheel for an older version. Regards, supercass

FI was available at least as an option. One of the last TR8's sold in Calgary was an FI now in Victoria, the grand daughter had it at our car show with a for sale sign on it. I think they decided to keep it in the family.
Re: the steering wheel it could have been a case of using up parts as they came to end of production or maybe they had a parts shortage as used some old style wheels to keep production rolling.
The odd placement of badge might be indicative of a respray or maybe something more insidious like former front end damage.

Four FI TR8s at our breakfast run just last Friday. There are at least seven in the city plus four or five TR7s.
