spongy brakes

While out driving yesterday, my brakes went awry. Hit the brakes and the pedal went down much further than it should and in addition felt spongy. I could pump them and the pedal came back at least partially. Checked the MC, it is full. No sign of brake fluid under the car. Any ideas? It is an '80 tr7. Thanks, tony

It looks like the seals in the master cylinder are bypassing, hence no fluid loss.

Sounds exactly like a master cylinder to me.

Sound like what happened to me! Bleed the back brakes until you get clean fluid out of the back. It was just built up air from getting the brakes too hot!
Cheaper than getting a new Master to find out that it was just air.
