Wedge repair shop in St Louis area???

I apologize for repeating this question, but the last time it produced John Mangles' name, and he has no interest in working on my car, so here goes again. I have a TR8 that runs VERY rough when it's hot, especially when the engine is under a load (climbing a hill with the AC on is almost impossible.) I've checked everything I'm able to do with my minimal mechanical skills (plugs, wires, distributor cap/rotor, carb mixture) and it's made no improvement at all. It's been to a local import car shop again with no improvement. I can't keep driving it the way it is and I can't seem to find anyone who knows much about Wedges. I'd really appreciate any leads!

Look for an independent Rover mechanic.

FYI - The TR8 engine was originally from a 61-63 buick/olds 215ci. Rover bought it from them when they switched to a cast iron 300ci block.
Also, does your TR8 have the stock fuel injection, twin SU's or ZS carbs or a 4 barrel? If stock fuel injection, you might need new injectors and or seals. If twin carbs, check the mounts for leaks. If a 4 barrel carb, any speed shop should be able to help you out.

exactly ....any old school GM v8 guy should be able to work/tune your engine (once he gets over the fear of the british bodywork)
It could also be part of the reason people like to mod out their TR8's with simple 4bbl carbs, it's what they are comfortable with and work good!

Sounds like it might be the diaphragms in the carbs. If they are cracked or brittle and you loose vacuum you loose a lot of power.

I should have remembered about the GM origins of this engine - getting old and forgetful! I took the tops off the carbs and checked - both diaphragms are perfect. I'm starting to suspect either the coil or the guts of the Pertronix in the distributor. A coil swap is easy enough but I'm not sure how to begin with the Pertronix, other than replacing the whole thing. I'll start calling the shops that have been mentioned here but based on past experience one of them isn't interested in my car(s) and the other is one of those dirty and disorganized shops that you hesitate to trust; still, I have to get some help on this. Dave - a carb swap might be just the thing to rule them in or out as the problem. I'm in unfashionable north St Louis County (Spanish Lake), where are you?

Dave - I replied to your message as soon as I read it, but my reply seems to have vanished without a trace. Which is odd, since the exact same thing happened on the Wedgeparts forum this week. I didn't want you to think I was ignoring you, or didn't appreciate the offer. Unfortunately I broke my foot last Friday and it's going to be at least a month before I'm able to get back to work on the car. Where are you located? I'm in Spanish Lake, north St Louis County.
