Carb mountings to manifold - gasket?

<font face="Comic Sans MS"><font size="2"><font color="blue">Does anybody know if the carb mountings (part number TKC1338 in Rimmers catalogue http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-GRID006070) needs a gasket between the mounting and the face of the inlet manifold, or do they just mate metal-to-metal?

I can`t remember for certain, but I would assume they do as you don`t want any air leaks there. If you haven`t got any, I would use gasket paper or hermetite or similar.

If in good condition the insulator blocks should have a sealing lip on both sides.
But these tend to deteriorate with age, so some sealant won't be a bad idea.

I found on both of the 79's that the sealing ability of the blocks was lacking. It seems to have been caused by the rubber sealing ridge receding from age/shrinkage. I made gaskets for both sides and reassembled. They have been great ever since.

Do make sure that the rubber has not split when they are off the car. Also check that the support bumber is in place. It supports a small tab on the air box backplate. It keeps the weight of the carbs from stressing the upper portions of the rubber manifold blocks.
