Gearbox Mounting

How much flex should there be in the gearbox mounting? Mine as solid as a rock, If I try to move the box with a jack it raises the car up, there appears to be no flexibility at all.

The box is bolted through the cross member. See the picture I posted under your oil seal post. The mount is rubber but extremely hard. Not meant to move, only to damp vibration.

Hi Andy,

My old oil soaked item was as hard as a Jelly Baby when I removed it.

The replacement had about as much give as a block of wood. I heard rumour that a batch of over hard gearbox mounting rubbers hit the shops a couple of years ago. More gearbox whine came into the car afterwards, and more again after changing the remote housing bushes to poly spec.
