Thinking of starting the steps to restore my TR 7

Hello, I'm looking for any advice on restoring my 1980 TR 7 that has been sitting in my garage for almost 10 years. Everything is still original with the car. I'd like to find a mechanic who knows these cars very well. I live in the Temecula CA area. Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thomas [:p]

Hi Thomas,

Welcome to the forum,

anything your not sureabout just ask, at least one person of this forum has either seen it, solved it or is working on it now.

My first thought on your restoration without knowing what needs doing would be, think how long it will take to restore and treble it, then take the cost to restore and treble that to.[:)]

Hi and welcome to the group! My advice to you would be,if you plan on keeping the car (and we know you are, right?[;)],familiarize yourself with it. Look at some of the info on JClay's site, get the Bentley manual (usually found on eBay or Amazon), go through the posts on this site, etc. So when you do find a mechanic that will assist you, you'll have a better idea of what you are dealing with. I'm guessing that a lot of the original stuff is OK to use,yet some other things, like rubber hoses, brakes, fluids, etc. you'll probably want to replace if original. I knew nothing about these cars when I first joined the site (other than that I wanted one), and now I not only have 2[:D],I feel comfortable enough to fix a variety of things on my own, should they break or need replacement.
Enjoy!

Welcome, before getting carried away it might be a good idea to familiarize with the car and drive it for a while if possible. Make sure you download the workshop manual.
If you want a little insight in what can be expected for a full restoration have a look at my weblog, starting from December 2008.
