Typical condition of many of these cars, especially the older coupes. It will need a full restoration unless you want to drive a ratmobile.

Vinyl tops crack allowing water in and rusting of roof results.

Drivers seat tends to crack the frame as people lean back to get the keys out of their pocket. It likely will require some welding unless you replace it with a frsme from another car.

Spare wheel well can hold water and rust as well as rear sills, especially if drain ho;es are plugged, intentionally or otherwise.

Don't do facebook but if it's a Victory Edition it would be nice to save it as such with the thought of "Save the Special Editions, modify the regular cars." Not that they are worth more money just because they are rarer.

Parts are cheap and available (although the costs do add up). These project cars are for those who enjoy rolling up their sleeves and the journey to completion is as enjoyable as the destination (which is enjoyable indeed). That destination will get you a car that will get attention like many much more expensive cars will not.

You didn't say what you paid for the car.[:)]

Oh, and not a shock the slant four still purrrs. Back in the day, They were voted Europe's most reliable four cylinder (as found in the Saab).

It does look like a Victory Edition car. It is missing the correct wheels for the Victory Edition. They look like the stock steel wheels. I'm not sure but I think that the Victory Edition mags were prone to cracking, so the PO may have had to replace them. FI Spyder is right, it would be good to try to try to save it as a Victory Edition. Good luck, and welcome to the best forum on the net.

I think that in UK terms it all sounds like minor work. Good luck should be good.

Not sure I agree with F1 Spider about reliability back in the day, I remember back in the late seventies they were renown for head gasket failures, albeit not the engines fault, more lack of proper maintenance of the coolant.

My friend bought a 76-77 model, it was 3-4 years old and the head gasket went as predicted. Didn't stop him buying a low mileage 2 year old DHC though[:)] or me getting my 29 year old TR7 - just require proper maintenance.

The "Spoker Wheels" would crack at the spokes and were recalled and replaced. There are newer versions of the same wheel made by American Mag.

I knew somebody made an upgraded version. If I had a victory edition, these would be on it.

The original spoker wheels would crack and they were all recalled. Don't know why. Probably because they were farmed out to the lowest quote. Spoker wheels were very common back in the day and were often on 4X4's with large tires and as you can imagine took a lot of abuse. Never heard of any wheel failures except on the TR7 so not symptomatic of the design in and of itself. Typical case of penny pinching I suspect.
