Changed my mind.

I had decided to take a break from all things "TR7" this year and concentrate on my bike. I needed to move the 7 over a bit to make getting the bike in and out a little easier, i reconnected the battery crawled in through the passenger window, yes space is that tight, and fired her up. That smell, that noise and the way she dragged herself out of the garage on two flat tyres made me run to the internet and pay for 6 months road tax. Addictive aint the word.[8D]

I've toyed with that idea a few times over the yearS, and actually succeeded a few years back to go the whole summer without the TR!

I also swap between a bike and the car for three seasons, with the bike being daily transportation to and from work....

Just fixed the leaking gas line today on the Seven, so the car should be on the road soon!!! (bike's been out for a month now ....)



(( Btw , don't know about yours, but my bike has pedals ))

Rob im shocked how anyone could think of not putting there 7 on the road for the summer.[;)]

Mine is so close to full 16v road worthyness now i cant wait.[:D]

You must be nearly there Stan, what's left to do? i can't wait to see the vid of you driving her through the lanes!

For someone who needed to take his full bike test it's cost me a fortune hence the thought that the TR7 would be cheaper in the garage, gone are the days of riding around the block whilst an instructor looks on. Sometimes, well ok all the time the heart rules the head. The curse of the petrol head.

Hi Ron, i was referring to the bike with the engine but according to the wife it's the one with peddles i should be taking out!

I can't sell the bike Beans, it's more than my life's worth to do that after all the aggro it's caused between myself and the good lady wife. She's only just got used to the idea!

Back in the day, in Alberta, your regular drivers licence was all you needed to drive a motorcycle. After driving one for the summer I moved to BC and had to have a test. It started off doing figure eights in a parking lot by the Legislative Buildings (Victoria) as the tester looked on. At that moment a bunch of tourists walked through the parking lot and I proceeded to do figure eights amongst them at very slow speed. That was the end of test as the tester said "you obviously have control of your bike". End of test. Cost was nominal to cover paper work.

Not a great deal left to do Rob,

The weather was fantastic today so i have sorted the throttle linkage, fitted the exhaust properly (which may i add sonds wonderfull) [:D], set the timing correctly and checked the dwell angle which is also correct.[:)]

Before she hits the road at the end of the month i will replace the water in the system with proper coolant, fit the new air filters and peform another oil and filter change and then thats it until the winter.[:D]

... and if you buy concentrate that needs mixing then use demineralised/distilled water with it, NOT tap water.

Tap water carries a range of dissolved solids (minerals and metals) that may come out of solution in the coolant system and contribute to corrosion of the alloys [and] constriction of the water passages - think of them as like saturated fats in your blood.

Hi Rob,

IMHO, the secret to maintaining approval from a partner for motor bike riding is to regularly have her <i>enjoy</i> being carried as pillion. Obviously, her enjoyment of the experience is paramount, and hence one must be duly responsible and not scare her in any way.

I have met a few women that described the experience of straddling a bike that had a throbbing exhaust as <i>titilating</i>.

ps. I'm glad to hear you're also going to run the wedge this summer - after the effort last year it would be wrong to put it away.

100% agree with using distilled water, it's all i ever use and yes, get it done asap. After pulling my land rover engine to bits i replaced the coolent system with neat water, it's cheaper if there's any leaks! Anyhow, something cropped up and it stayed in there for a week before removing it and using a 50/50 mix. Everything that was steel had corroded and the water had already started to discolour. I'm very careful with the maintenance on that side of things now.

the wife is warming to the idea of being a pillion, i think she wants to see me go out and come back on one piece a few times before she climbs aboard! So far i've had a full days training to complete my Compulsary Basic Training (CBT), a full days riding around with an instructor on a suzuki GS500 to get used to the machine, another full days training with my Module one test at the end and next Tuesday i have another full days training and my Module two test at the end of that. Then and only then will i have a sufficient license to ride a motorcycle over 33bhp.

Cheers Marsu, last year was pretty stressful! i won't be carrying out the mods i hoped to with regards to the ignition and fuelling but at least i'll be able to enjoy it and at least get it through another MOT. Oh, by the way, i'm not sure if anyone remembers but i had an issue with my oil pressure being too low......... Well, yesterday i removed the oil pump from the original 2.0 and swapped it with the one which came with the sprint. Oil pressure is now no lower than 25psi at 600rpm when hot. previously it was down to 15 and when the revs dropped when the fan cut in i occasionally saw 10psi. Although the pressure at idle has increased, the pressure is slightly more lethargic to respond when increasing the revs???? strange, still, it wouldn't be a TR7 if it was without any faults what so ever! going to try Penrite 20w60 this year and see what happens.

So you're pleased with the sound Stan? how does the exhaust system differ from your original set up?

On my original 2.0 litre engine Rob i had a standard stainless system with a pea shooter tail pipe and the standard cast iron manifold.

The system is now a full stainless sports system inc tubular extraction manifold and it seems to have a lovely deep rasp to it when its revved up, can't wait to get her on the road.[:)]
