Newbie . . . . .

Postby Laird Scooby » 08 Apr 2011 19:19

Hi All,

as i've recently registered on here, i thought i'd best come and say hello!

I'm hoping to find myself a TR7 coupe/hardtop in need of restoration. Never owned one before but have owned well over 200 cars in my time so got plenty of experience to draw on!

I've got a few different cars in mind as a resto project so it may be i don't end up with a Wedge but i'm getting hopeful at the moment!
If i do get one, i'll get it to MoT standard and then treat it as a rolling resto and as things go wrong/break/wear out, i'll replace/modify/upgrade them. For example, i'll be fitting an uprated alternator, Accuspark or similar electronic ignition, electric cooling fan etc.

At some point in time i'd like to improve the lighting at the sharp end and plan to fit halogen conversions to the standard 7" headlamp bowl. Also i'd like to fit a pair of round driving lamps above the bumper and a pair of rectangular fog lamps under the bumper. I've heard there are brackets to fit the driving lamps above and i wondered if they're still available - does anybody know please?
As for the fogs, i'm sure i'll be able to find somewhere to mount them - where i live they're a necessity, not a luxury!

Look forward to finding and owning a Wedge and getting involved on here!

Cheers,
Dave

Welcome Dave,

Sounds like you have made a lot of plans even before you have bought your wedge.

I'm sure when you do get one that there is no end of knowledge and information you can get from this web site.

It is the best TR7\8 forum on the web. [:D]

Thanks for the welcome guys! Gaz - clicked the link as it sounds great and not too far from me (i'm in Cambs so about 100 miles ish) but couldn't PM the guy as he hasn't loaded any contact details! Left a post on his thread though and pointed out about his lack of details, hopefully he'll PM me!

It sounds just what i'm looking for as i want to be able to basically do a ground up rebuild or a rolling resto as i put in my first post. Either will keep me happy lol!!

Cheers,
Dave

Hi Laird Scooby,
I am in Cambs too, and not too far away from starting work on my DHC 'Ruby', she has been parked up for over 23 years just waiting for the right person and moment to get her returned to her former glory.
You are quite welcome to come and have a look at the project anytime, and after the 'Var' project I took on in May-September I maybe able to show you a few pointers if you do get a rusty 7.
I have been very busy over the last 4 months and just getting back to the forum to catch up on things.
Cheers
Peter
