I went for a stainless manifold during the conversion Rocky and as a matter of course its better to spend the £10 and get the gasket, two metal surfaces mating together will not seal properly.

Hi,

The gaskets were originaly for F.I TR7's the carb engines ran nothing, but if you fitting a stainless manifold then i would rec them everytime.

In fact it's common practice (recommended) to use the
FI gaskets on all exhausts regardless.

I wondered the same thing when I rebuilt my motor. Everyone I talked to said that TR7's (non-FI) and Stags came from the factory with no gasket. Everyone also said that they did add one if they pulled the manifold and found none...

I took Triumph at their word, & have never used s manifold gasket. On each of the 4 I have fitted I used a smear of the red high heat silicone goo, with complete success. I do use a home made gasket on extractor exhaust systems when I have them fitted, as I have found they often distort when hot.

When it comes to the manifold flange gasket, on the stock manifold, which does have a shim gasket, it's an entirely different story. I have always had to replace the studs, & make a gasket out of klingerit to get a satisfactory, long lasting seal.
