Springtime,,, kind of

Postby Spectatohead » 24 Mar 2011 00:02

It was a nice day here in Vancouver, Washington. I took the battery off of the trickle charger and popped it into the car. I pulled the coil wire and cranked it for about 2 seconds till the oil pressure light went off. Then hooked the coil back up and fired her right up. I took a short but enjoyable ride in the warm sun. I got home and replaced the tach with one from the Wedge Shop and mounted the Tex passenger side mirror. Then I took another little drive to check everything. It's really nice that the tach doesn't drop to zero after revs climb past 4000 any more, and it's nice to be able to see behind the passenger side. They weren't very big jobs but I've been too busy with other things to do anything with the Triumph. So it was nice to get anything accomplished, regardless of how small. It was also a blast to drive her again, for the first time since November. It has clouded over and is starting to rain again. Who knows when I'll get to take her out next. Maybe I need to get a top?

Nice Jim, I've been in the middle of a kitchen remodel and haven't touched the car in weeks

Yup, it was same here. Fired up the Spider for first time this year for a spin. Going down the road on the other side of town I saw a white TR7 with top down in drive way I hadn't seen before. I pulled a u turn and parked if front of house. There was a for sale sign on it and owner was there. He owned it for 12 years and was selling it for space, the spot in the garage and the lack of places for his two kids. He had a truck, a VW station wagon, and a Chevy muscle car. No rust, stock, had a period Alpine radio, extra set of tires and wheels all in good condition. Red check panels but seats were redone in black vinyl. Build date April '79. Not much work needed to make it look good. Mostly cleaning. Didn't know how much to ask for it. Told him starting point should be $2,500. Some one could get it for less I think. 69,000 km. Talked car stuff with him for a while. A Brit expat.

Interesting day. Still clear, supposed to cloud up tomorrow but I hope rain stays away so I can get my muffler put the Spider.

Picked up my two trailing arm bushings for Integra for $184.00 Glad my TR7 parts aren't that expensive.

I was in Oregon for a long weekend in February and got the 8 out for a couple of drives. Never put the top down, as it was always either raining or threatening to rain. An adequate top is a nice thing to have. Since I convinced Dolly that buying the 8 would save money on rental cars, I pretty much drive it regardless of the weather. There was snow on top of Bald Peak when we drove over on the way to Newberg. I'll be south again the first week of April; hoping for a little better weather.
