A similar idea has been available in the UK for several years aimed at the MGF/TF market.

Not a bad price considering the wheel options it would open up. What the effect on wheel bearings and added mechanical stresses would be is another matter I suppose.

I have a set of these (the ebay ones). They work as described and enable use of more common wheel PCD's. A word of caution though. These adaptors are approx. 25mm thick. Add this to the standard 25mm wheel offset and you need a rim with about 50mm of positive offset to keep the standard track width and for the tires to clear the body.

I have a set of 16" rims with 38mm offset with 225/55 tires. They will rub unless I flare the wheel wells. A few pics:

Strangely, the rear are not as much of an issue as the front.

225/55 16 was that a typo? That would be 654mm tall as opposed to the original 590mm. That's quite a difference abit over 10% on the speedo. The track is a bit narrower on the rear than the front so that would explain the difference for the back. I have thought about getting those very ones but there are not any option of wheels at 50mm offset. ther are quite a few at 4x100 in 40 and 42mm offset though. Out of curiosity how wide are the wheels you have?

Great to have someone post pictures of the on the car with wheels though.

Thanks

I had a set made up from a supplier on ebay that were 19mm thick. Couple that with some wheels with a 42mm offset so the difference is a minor 2mm offset. Have 205/45R16's on with it.

Oops. So it was.
I'm running 215/55-16 tires on 16x7JJ rims with a 40mm offset.
Stock are 185/70-13 or 185/75-13, depending on the year of the car, with a 24.5mm rim offset.

Stock (185/75) tires are 23.9" dia and mine are 25.3" dia. This raises the car by about 3/4", but I've got lowered springs so it balances out.

But, the stock tire width is 7.3" and mine are 8.5", about 1.2" wider (0.6" per side). As well, I've got rims with 40mm offset, but my 4x100 adapters are 25mm thick. Add this to the std offset of 24.5mm and my tires are moved out by another 10.5mm (~0.45").

So, effectively I've moved the outer wall of each tire, outwards from the stock location by ~1", enough to hit the wheel arches.

I went with the 215's because I have a 3.45 rear end (<i>also, they came with the rims</i> [;)]). At 70mph in 5th this drops my revs to 2670rpm vs 2825rpm for the stock tires. To be honest, I'd love to get a 3.08 rear end. Drop my revs to 2385rpm at 70mph.
