Relay investigation????

Hi Guys
Today I have an interesting one.
After checking all the relays in the car I found that in the glove compartment there were three types :
The Metal one which i did not take a picture of
And these two . As you will notice the one on the left [ The round one for those who live in countries where they don't know the difference between driving right and wrong ( left)][:D]

The power switches from 87A to 87
While the other one Is Off and then switches Both 87 at the same time


Which one goes where???

What year is the car?

Unless my memory is going, my '79 has a dual-87 output relay on the starter. One output goes to the starter and the other goes to the coil (to provide full voltage while cranking). But I don't have the wiring diagram in front of me to verify this so best to double-check.

Well, from what I can see on the wiring diagram the starter relay wiring is quite different on an '81. Looks like just a standard 87-87a but I can't really tell for sure. So I don't think my comment above is applicable to your car, sorry.

The one on the left theround one is one of two relays for the front light motors.
The other is a starter relay.

Round or square is largely immaterial unless you are fixated on oringinality. The original Prince Of Darkness (Lucas) relays are round and quite tall. Modern replacement relays (such as Bosch) are square and much smaller in height. I replaced my Lucas with Bosch some time ago. Now if I could just find a replacement for the Pektron !

British Parts Northwest has the square one which is listed for $12.95. It's a starter relay and other things. I bought one as a backup cause it's cheaper than a Lucas (and probably better).
