Rear Lower Control Arm bolts?

Are the two Rear Lower Control Arm bolts two different lengths?

I have them in but they don't look right. Not enough thread on the rear one and too much on the front one, but they feel like they are the same length. I don't want to put it together wrong!

The front and rear bolts for the LOWER control arm are different. Sounds like you need to swap them.

OK, I have got the short bolts on one side of the car and the long bolts on the other side. I thought it was funny last night, but was just way too tired to think it through!

Boy, what a PITA that was!

It had been so long since I took everything apart that I didn't realize I had the two long bolts on one side and the two short bolts on the other. So, tonight I got to take everything apart that I put together last night, just to switch out the two bolts!

So now I am a day behind.

Those kind of mistakes usually happen when you're tired. As a rule of thumb you should allow 5 days to do a 1 day job, that way you can be four days behind and still be on schedule.[:D]

I used the washers that were on the bolts originally. Everything back together and the car is back on the ground for the first time in over 8 months!

New shocks, springs, SS brake lines, poly bushings, Ted's adjustable bottom stop and upper bump stops:

The longest I had a car off the road was 21 years[:0], it sat under my parents home while I visited Australia, Britain, Europe and USA. How time flew when you were having fun[8D]
The fun didn't stop there[;)], as I had a Triumph Herald Coupe to resurrect after her big sleep[:p]
So I know exactly how you all feel when you have your pride and joy back[^]

OK, Silver Seven, to answer your question. I want to paint the underside with POR-15 but I haven't been able to find a dealer her in Houston. Well, I went to the Autoroma today and there was a big sign about POR-15 products. The guy in in Waller Texas, about 70 miles away, but it will be worth the drive.

Mean while, back in the jungle!

Well I finished the rear end on my TR8 yesterday and put the battery charger on the battery. While I was waiting for paint to dry the other day, I started checking the distributor. Jim TenCate and I have had several discussions about the fuel injection and I totally resoldered every connect on both ECUs. Thanks for your help Jim. He also said that the back firing and ruff running could be in the distributor.

I took the cap off and everything looked fine. Then I noticed that the connector at the ballast looked like it wasn't connected all the way. I reached down to push it in tighter and the thing wiggled in my hand. I pushed it all the way in and it still wiggled! I took it off and used a small screw driver to put a slight bend in the female connectors of the three wires. Then when I put it back on, everything was good and tight! Last night I put the battery charger on the battery as the car has been sitting for eight months.

Well, when I got home from the Autoroma, I disconnected the battery charger. Then I sat down in the driver's seat. I reached for the key in anticipation. I said a little prayer, then turned the key on. I could hear the fuel pump come on. I waited a few seconds and held my breath as I turned the key to start.

The engine sputtered a few time and then came to life!

So the problem with the car not running properly was the connector from the distributor to the ballast. It just wasn't making a good connection at the ballast!

It runs great! I went to several muffler shops trying to find a resonator like the one that fell apart, but no luck. At the last shop, I had them cut the other resonator off and weld on two straight pipes coming out of the back. When I drove the car home, it is louder that it was before.

I can't wait to get the new engine in!

Never ceases to amaze me when people in big population centres can't find a product be it POR-15 (in this case) or just to get a key cut when all I do is go into town and pick it up (population 5,000). Clay you can order direct from their web site if a 140 mile drive isn't in the books.

Interesting note, on their international listing of disributors they list Alaska and Hawaii.I guess they don't consider them part of the union. Sarah, I guess you can't run for Pres.[:o)]
