Bottom door hinge repair (XKC33/XKC34)

Postby Marsu » 23 Nov 2010 05:00

The tin worm has been wriggling along the inside of the bottom of my doors so I pulled them off as I have some good 2nd hand replacements to go on in their stead. What this revealed is a problem with the bottom hinge on the RH side - it can shift in and out by ~3mm. I'm not sure if the hinge pin has broken or the hole in the inside leaf (the side welded to the body) has enlarged. Most of the movement is at the top of the hinge.

The parts catalog shows this as a complete unit. Has anyone else had a problem here?

Is the pin stationary when you move the hinge? Looks like the pin has seized in the fixed part so the moving part is rotating round the pin instead of in unison with it, causing elongated holes in the moving hinge, hence the play. Too much bother to repair properly; personally i would buy the complete hinge as the best solution
