Fitting Radio

Hi All
My DHC did not come with a radio so my son has given
me a ripspeed one which has a multi connector on it.
It has the wiring details on it but i am no electrician.
So could someone tell me which way i should do it.
There is a yellow wire to connect to battery and a red
wire to connect to aux. What colour wires on the car
should i connect into.I have found the original speaker wires
which are ok.

would of thought red to switched and fused live through ignition switch, black to earth and yellow should go to a constant live somewhere such as the clock to store radio stations etc when stereo is knocked off, speakers should be solid colour live side mixed to negative? would guess the multi plug would have a blue somewhere for connecting an electric ariel? [:D]

am sure i will be corrected if i'm wrong, hopefully before you set fire to the car and blame me..........[B)]

Depends on what you want to do with it ans when you want to be able to use it.
Key off or on type of thing.
If this is a new radio they are a lot more powerful than old ones so running them with the key off could build up a lot of heat on our little wires

and the 6x9s on each side of the hood on coathangers and the 14inch sub in the spare wheel well..........

sorry got 22yr old twins who keep telling me how to "improve" my car, apparently knight rider scrolling red light in bonnet and red lights in the footwells would look "cool" too........[:D]

good point dnk, leave space next to sub in boot for fire extinguisher......

only kidding, got cd player to go in mine soon as i stop all the leaks,........

I'm not sure what variations may exist in various models, but on mine, a 1978 Speke built FHC for Australian delivery the red wire from the radio connects to a White/Pink cable that is switched by the ignition key. This wire connection emeges from the main harness with the Black/White speaker connection end points. (See pic below)

I did not connect the yellow continuous feed on my car as there is not a connection point for it and I don't mind tuning the radio it each time I use it. If you do want to connect this you will need to either run your own cable to the battery terminal (not recommended) or splice into one of the brown cables that carry live feed.

There are a few locations you could do this. The shortest distance to cable to would be to the butt join in the harness on top of the right hand side of the fuse box. (See pic below)

Definitely fit at least 10A inline fuse on the red cable.

I'm not sure on the yellow. I suspect not, but check the radio documentation.
