About 30-50 miles at up to 30mph is the usual spec. for transmisions with internal oil pumps like our TR7. I know of a Ford Truck with internal oil pump that had it's transmission wrecked by towing. The owners manual said don't do it. I had Yellow TCT towed by tow truck (8 miles at under 30 mph) where it's trap fits under the front wheels and lifts them up.

Towing with a chain is asking for trouble with the slackening and jerking of chain. Like when I helped my neighbour try to move his boat balanced on tire on cab and rear of box (his idea not mine). Just ended up scratching his new Toyota 4x4 truck up. (I was able to buff most of it out except for dents and chips).

I agree, just disconnect the prop shaft. Do not tow it 300Kms.....with the back wheels revolving.....do not ask me how I know[:I]

Or rent a two wheel dolly from your local rental place for about $25 and put the rear wheels in the dolly and lock the steering wheel straight and tow it for as far as you have money to buy gas.

I towed my DHC about 200 miles that way. Never had a problem towing cars that way......except that time the leather/rubber universal thingie in the steering sector broke loose and the front of the car that was at the back was about to pass us in the next lane....[:I] Now THAT was a hoot !

what about just doing it the right way and renting a proper car trailer form U-haul or something???

Honestly it's not that much more than a dolly, and tows much better without the fuss of disconnecting parts, its much more stable, and you can back-up if needed ;)
