Hi,

I'm not sure if i mentioned it before but i found this under one of those aftermarked braided hose kits. If you've got one of these kits fitted could you please check.



The pipe was a fuel line and was split right down to the core, i'm not sure how noticable it would be when in position, i only noticed it when stripping things apart.

The slits in the pipe seem to have been caused by the braiding.

My original FI fuel lines had a psuedo braided texture to them. I had a pin hole fuel leak, it looked like a spider web (no pun intended) at 34 lbs pressure. All the lines I replaced (from different vendors) where all smooth surface.

I had a braided oil hose fail on my MG...at 80MPH, In Traffic.[:0]
I got the car stopped in time to save the engine but I don't like that kind of excitement. I couldn't tell where the oil was coming from until I refilled the engine (4 litres!) and fired it up. It was coming through the steel braid. Turns out the inner hose was nylon, which failed.
I will only buy braided hoses with rubber cores now!

It's one of those areas, like brake hoses, where it pays to buy the best quality available. Those of us who keep our cars for many years have probably changed these hoses two or three times at least. I have.

I bought competition quality fuel and breather hoses from Avonbar a couple of years ago but even they won't last forever.

A picture tells a thousand words, with me you tend to get both anyway! The hose looks almost new until you bend it and all those splits appear. Quite scary really and needless to say all that "bling" is in the bin. It was also really difficult to get the hose clamps to work too, i wonder how many potential fireballs are driving around right this minute!

agreed on the excitement front, any excitement should be had with the fluids INSIDE the engine[:D]
