Door Lock

Ok then people, having an issue opening the passenger door on my 1982 FHC.

I have managed to strip the interior panel out so I can get access to the lock mechanism. All the linkages are connected and working fine yet I can't open the door.
I have a spare catch mechanism and have stripped this down to see what's happening or not. Everything looks to be operating as it should. I've sprayed release agent and WD40 down into the mechanism to lubricate it but as yet no luck. Not sure whether the return spring on the catch itself is sticking but the only way to check that is to take the catch mechanism off....one problem, I need to open the door to access the fasteners!!!Any ideas???

Cheers

Guy,

I suggest a long screw onto the catch area and give the screw driver a hard tap or too hopefully this might free the catch mechanism. Prior to doing this apply plenty of lubricate

If you have some help but be careful undo the hinge nuts and see if moving the door slightly up and down so might help to release the stuck door.

Hope this helps.

Have someone pull the handle while you thump the door from inside the car. Worked for me!

When you get the door open, spray lubricate into the wedge plate on the door jamb. When it slides in and out with out hesitation when pushed with a screwdriver, you are good. (You can tell when it needs to be lucubrated because you will hear a click a few seconds after opening the door.)

There is also tales of a plastic part in the locking latch that can stick or brake. I have never encountered this, but it could be your problem. Do a search.

Oh, yes, Welcome to the Forum!

Remember there's a plastic thingie inside the mechanism that brakes sometimes.
When it does - it's a pry bar that MIGHT unlock the door... BTDT - got the scars... [:(]
Call S&S or Robsport and ask them to explain this in more detail.

Guy,

jclay telling you about the anti-burst locating plate which is only fitted on DHC, your fhc will not have this.

Tells us all how you get on.
