I replaced everything on the right front suspension and was wondering about the castle nut for the nall joint....There is no hole for the cotter pin on my Quinton Hazell ball joints... What's up with that?

When I replaced mine (some years ago) they didn't have a hole either, but came with new nyloc nuts.

The ones I reciently bought were the same way. But came with a nylock-nut. Several hundred miles driven so far, still good [:D]

Just had to replace one of mine, it would seem that the modern stuff replaces the castle nut and split pin with a nyloc nut.
Must be cheaper!

Hi,
As long as the thread is the same, how about torque the nut up and drill the ball jiont so keeping an original look, if thats what you are after. The majority of modern cars use nylocs and they work ok, a little to well at times when the taper breaks as you are undoing the nut so the whole bl88dy pin spins [:(!]

Confused, my Spitfires which predate the TR7 I currently have always had nylocs. My late model TR7 suprised me because it had a castle nut.
So the newer car is an older design than the 1967 Spit I had????

OK I may go with nylocs...how do I find Grade 8.8 nylocs? usually they don't have any marking system on them, and I don't want to use generic ones to find they are strong enough.

RB, do you have a fastener tore near you. Around here we have Tacoma Screw and Fastenal to name just a couple. What I would use instead of a nylock is a metal lock.
