I got my car out for the first time in a while yesterday too.

Had to fix some minor issues in the morning and then had it out for around an hour.

Still plenty warm in Arizona (around 100'), but it is a lot nicer than a month ago. Unlike everyone else, we are getting close to convertable weather he because it will be cool enough.

I wanted to get the engine warm enough to get the fans to cycle on (one of things I have been working on). Even at 100' in city driving I could not get the temp over half way on the gauge. Still not sure if the fans work correctly, but I think I got rid of the air bubble in the cooling system.

As a rule, I don't like white cars. But you;re managing to alter my opinion.

Looks the part Rob.

Keep the photo's coming.

When it comes to TR7s whitey is mighty. Perfect combo = red FHC + white DHC or vice versa. The car looks mint, Rob.

Thanks for the kind comments! the car is in good nick but not as good as the pics make out.

Well...... i'm in a bit of a dilemma with the graphics! i picked a nice day, got the graphics out and roughly taped some of them on and this highlighted a problem. Not a big problem but one big enough for me to think twice about sticking them on.

The car, in my opinion, is way too "off white" to put those graphics on. It just doesn't look right to me and i can imagine you guys have been down a similar path before, you spend time and money chasing an idea only to realise half way through that it wasn't such a good idea after all and end up spending more time and money doing something completely different. Or something to that effect!

So there's now a few routes to take. Firstly i start the "Beans" route a bit earlier than i wanted to. I strip the shell, get it chemical dipped, coated, sprayed a lighter shade of white and put the graphics on.

This is where it went wrong........... Once i started to think about a respray i thought it was a bit crazy to spend all that time and money just to get a set of graphics to look right so what other colours could i try? then i thought about the "Gulf" colour scheme and ditch the graphics idea. Mmmmmm[:p]. No seriously, hear me out first!!!

first of all it will have to be done properly, not like some i've seen! Light pastel blue, orange bumpers, sills, rally spoiler and flared rally arches. The orange on the front bumper / spoiler will carry on up the bonnet, closing in to form an orange stripe which will carry on up over the roof and down to the boot / back bumper.

Maybe orange powder coated deep dish minilites? or just maybe standard. I think a low, wide TR7 in the classic Gulf colours would look very smart indeed. Unfortunately i'm not photoshop equipped so can't show a mock up but hopefully you've all got a picture in your heads as to what it'll look like. That's if i choose this route!

I think too much.

I would get the Gulf colours photoshopped by someone and mull it over before I went to that expense to make sure that's what you wanted to do.

Can the Graphics company not match the car colour and substitute it for the white in the graphics? They may have an off white shade that's close. The backing paper seems a close match in the pictures[:p].

Hi Rob, my twopenneth, I think your car looks superb. I had been a big fan of the rally colours and the wide arch look (Rockingham car from slowly sideways I think), but your car looks sooooo good as it is, I'd be tempted to go for the clean white respray and forget the stickers. (This is coming from a man who has stickers all over his Bond Equipe sprint car!)
Whatever you decide, you seem like someone who won't cut corners, I look forward to seeing it finished. Good luck.

Rob

As some one else has already suggested to you, this one looks way to nice change. Get your self another one and go crazy with paint schemes, wheels, and any other thing that you may want to do. At least you will still have one to drive as your dreams become reality.

Yeah - they don't look right do they?

I think I'd modify (like you have with the engine), but keep it looking standard. The car looks nice.

I reckon I'd buy another and rally replica it. This red one of mine will be getting a V8, and probably the sticker treatment etc to create that look - one day...

Buy another whilst they're still cheap and available. Or 'just' buy one of those new shells and build exactly what you want. I bet it wouldn't work out much more expensive. But I'm sure the wife wouldn't be that easily convinced!

While not rally themed, if I had kept my white fhc project car, I was planning a tribute to the group 44 with the two different shades of green and a green victory stripe.....it was to be for the grassroots motorsports 20XX challenge.

Blimey Shaun, that's a paint job you could swim in [8D] i had no idea you had that in the garage!

Ok, here goes. Thanks for all the comments, this forum is fantastic when it comes to bringing me down from the clouds. I've always had too many ideas[:D] I've decided against the lairy paint job and against the graphics (anyone want to buy them?) the plan is now to strip it, chemical dip it, repair any dents and strengthen the shell (only slightly and nothing visible), spray it in a lighter shade of white and rebuild it with new / refurbished parts. Basically similar to Beans. I was driving it back from work in the rain today, only doing 60 ish and it made me realise what i want from this car, i want it to be what BL would of wanted had they of had the money.

I try not to cut corners, doing that on a 31 year old motor is sure to bite you on the backside. In the rain. On the M25. In rush hour.[:D]

That group 44 TR7 is something else aint it!

Thanks guys!
