What is this

I'm working on my bumpers while my car is at the paint shop.
I have this spacer on one side of my front bumper, but not the other. So, I assume I've lost one.

But, I've gone on Rimmers website and I don't see it anywhere.

Any ideas?

I believe these are the weights we had a debate over a few months back. They were fitted to the DHC's front bumpers to combat scuttle shake, i don't know if there were supposed to be one or two fitted though[:I]

I remember the conversation about weight. However, this weighs almost nothing, less than a pound.
I'm sure it must be aluminum.

No, the weights are mounted on the sides of the bumper bar (and DHC only).
This spacer looks like a replacement for the original rubber mount used on the DHC's, fitted by the PO.
Only wondering why only one, is your car a DHC?

No, my car is a FHC (hard top).

I might have lost the other one in storage. The bumper has been off for awhile.

I'm afraid without it that the bumper will sit too far back but I can't find a replacment.

i have them too? i took a bumper off of another FHC as a spare and never saw them. yet another learning curve!

Looks easy enough to make one if you get a bit of aluminium the right thickness. Does the centre hole serve any purpose ? Is it necessary ??

FHC shouldn't have spacers, either the PO fitted the wrong "grill" mouldings and tried to rectfy it this way, or one of the chassis legs is shorter than the other due to accident damage ...

Those aluminum spacers would have been used on a FHC... at least here in the states. They took the place of the rubber mounts used on the DHC that also had the outboard weights and center pivot. I have seen them before. I have a FHC US spec bumper on my DHC without the spacers and I think it looks fine. Perhaps back a bit but no one has ever commented. Well except to say they don't droop.[:D]

If you must have them, Team Triumph in Warren Ohio probably has some used ones about.

You find the spacers on the 1979 model year TR7 coupes especially in the US as previously mentioned. It was to match the over all length of the coupes to the convertibles. I used to sell the spacer to convertible owners that had the sag effect. Does not hurt to have a set laying around.

No mention of them in the BL parts book for TR7 from 1979 onwards.
There are only spacers (no more than tubes that slide over the bumper bar's studs) between back of chassis mount and mounting nuts.

Thanks to Tim for morSpeedPerformance site. My searches somehow missed W VA shop...1.5 hr south of me (Pittsburgh). Rear bumper replacement seems near perfect in design...super clean lines; flush up to body; and parallel to ground. Has anyone tried them?
