Door Top Hinge Repair

Has anyone repaired their door top hinge before?

The metal bracket that runs against the spring in my door top hinges is broken. This bracket holds the door fully or part open when climbing in and out.

I have obtained some complete second hand top hinges and now need to remove the outer leaf assembly (RTC2524) from the bracket that was previously welded to the A pillar.

My intention is to:
1. Remove spring
2. Grind off top and bottom pin heads
3. Punch pins through to the gap in the middle

Does that sound right?

I did the replacement once and it turned out to be both parts of the hinge that were worn. I did cut one out of a parts car and weld it back in. The process of replacing half of the hinge, door side with the spring was a huge pain. That's when I looked and found that the car side of the hinge was worn too, so I needed the whole assembly anyway. Cross you fingers that the car side is not worn and the only fight is getting the spring back in. You can grind the bottom head off the pin and drive it out. Now when you put it back together tack weld the bottom of the pin so it does not work out of the top. Good Luck![:)]

Are you talking about the part that the spring goes over, kinda looks stepped?

I replaced one without removing any pins or doing any welding. For the life of me cant remember how I did it tho. It wasnt hard to do, next time I look at my car I may remember how I did it.
