Don't know if this is a well-known picture, but I came across it in my extensive archives (desk drawer) and thought I'd share it.

Toy trade show, presumably.

Now that is very interesting.. Those I think are the extremely rare "1977 silver jubilee" stripes. There is a gap on the door stripe where it is rumoured that you could have your own initials placed.

The car is also one of the factory "OOM" registration series which are found on quite a few historically noteworthy cars including of course, works rally cars.

Glad you like it.

According to imcdb.org, this car - or one with that number - was in The Return of The Saint and was last registered in 1986. There are several pictures of it on that site.

It's a coupe so no weights at bumper ends. Just regular fit and finish of British cars. An MGB just won 1st in todays car show concourse judging. The gaps in the bonnet to fenders were so far out. I said he must have goot extra points for making it the same as it came out of the factory.[:D]

The episode mentioned was only on recently, clip of car below, girl escapes prison and her boyfriend is an American racing driver with a TR7 .... , there is another episode entitled 'The Brave Goose' which features a blue 'OOM' TR7 for a while at the start, its head gasket goes bang early on and the heroin is rescued .

I laughed out loud when I saw Steve Thomas's reply as I called wifey over to see the picture and said exactly the same things before I scrolled down.

Yes, it's a Jubilee car or a mock-up at least. And if it's a genuine car then our suspicions are confirmed that the Jubilee was a forerunner of the March 77 cars with the tartan seat covers and full width wheel trims. The [probable] mistake has often been seen in print that there was some special sort of seat with a double stripe on them that matched the side stripes. Chris Turner has a white car that the evidence suggests was originally a Jubilee but I have never seen one of the few black Jubilee cars. And we know there were a few.

Great photo Graham. Don't suppose you know the date?

Hi John

I don't know the exact date - the photo was my first eBay purchase from nearly 0 (eek) years ago.

Zipping up my Dinky Toy anorak, I may be able to make a guess based on the "New Avengers" set balanced on the bonnet which I don't think was issued. Watch this space, but it may be some time...

This brochure is date 6/77 and states that you can add up to 3 initials of your choice into the stripe by the door.

Hello again

The car was registered on 4th April 1977, built who knows when.

Mike and Sue Richardson's "Dinky Toys and Modelled Miniatures" gives production of number 112, Purdey's TR7, as commencing in 1978. The launch might then have been to the trade in early 1978 or perhaps late 1977?

Don't know if either of these pieces of information advances the debate.

Yes, I had neglected to clarify that the photo is, I believe, of Dinky's launch to the UK toy trade of the "Purdey" version of their TR7 model.

The stripes are very similar....
