LED Indicator Bulbs

I bought a set of these 19 element LED bulbs to see what improvement they would make to my indicators.



I put 2 in the rear lights & they worked fine but when I did the fronts the won't flash unless I leave one out. With LEDs in all four corners the blinkers will light up but don't flash. This is true with both the turn signal & the hazards.

Does this indicate a bad earth etc or some other voltage issue?

I was a bit disappointed in them. I thought they'd be brighter but they look exactly the same. The only difference is that they are instant on/off whereas the standard bulbs fade on & fade off.

You will have to replace the flasher relay under the dash with an electronic one Peter in order to get them to work there are plenty on eBay made ofr the purpose of running LED's.

The bulbs you have there dont appear to have enough LEDS in them to make a significant improvement over the bulbs as they dont have 360 degree focus - other models have 32 LEDS arranged in a cluster that can be seen from all angles much the same as Odd Hedbergs dash lights he supplied. They are the ones to look for in my opinion...

Yes - the LEDs don't draw enough current for the flashers to work - so you would need to replace both flasher units. I wouldn't bother! Just use them in the brake and reverse lights.

What I fitted to our Wedges was described in an earlier mailing:

For those of you that want to fit multi-LED bulbs in your direction indicator, rear position, rear brake
light and reverse light positions I'd recommend a visit to www.VirtualVillage.co.uk who sell great,
but a bit costly, multi-LED bulbs for our dear Wedges. Don't forget to fit two electronic flasher relays
<u>intended for LED bulbs</u> if you go this route.

Personally I think they are <u>much</u> better compared to the ageing incandescent bulbs, so
- in my TR8, and in dads TR7V8, I used:

2 White 63-LED BA15S 1156 Car Bulbs for the reverse light positions and

4 Red 57-LED BA15D 1157 Car Bulbs for the rear position and brake light units.
(But do remember here: I use the E99996 double filament bulb holders from
Tex Automotive www.texautomotive.com/classic_electrical.html in the red
positions!)

2 Amber 45-LED BA15S 1156 Flash Indicator Light Bulbs for the front and
2 Amber 57-LED BA15S 1156 Flash Indicator Light Bulbs for the rears...
and then...: I ditched the amber inner lenses. Both front & rear...

Interesting to read the small print on these bulbs from Virtual Village:

It's probably their way of covering their back...

When you use as many LED elements as I do in the ones I fitted - they're sure bright enough!
