Oil Seals

Postby The Old One » 26 Jul 2010 20:34

Do the 2Ltr heads not have valve stem oil seals?
just removed and stripped the head and there are none.
While i have the head off is there any thing i should
be doing apart from cleaning every thing up and regrinding
the valves.

No oil seals that I know of. Spitfires didn't have them either but a lot of guys used MG oil seals on them. Don't tell me MG's aren't good for anything.[:)]

I would use a quality brand name head gasket rather than a cheapy one. Do a search about retorquing head gasket after a given number of miles. You already have Europe's 9.25 to 1 pistons. If everythings in good nick that's about it unless you want to go to trouble and expense of balance and blue print route. A hotter cam will raise HP to a higher RPM if that's your driving style. But with any engine mod without doing a total package you're only going to get a fraction of a benefit of a piece meal approach.

If you skim the head make sure it's minimal (10 thou or less) or you run into slanted stud to hole issues.
