Can any kind person confirm for me whether or not a single bulge bonnet from a 1976 car would fit a 1981 car with a V8 conversion. i.e are the dimensions the same? Thanks.

My understanding is that it can not as the double bulge is needed for clearance for the v8

Just depends on what carbs are used. The injected engine fits under the single bulge bonnet.

If you have the stock TR8 subframe spacers with the conversion you should be able to clear the bonnet with the strombergs. I had a 1977 TR8 coupe with a NOS replacement single bulge bonnet and it worked fine. If you have a 4 barrel conversion the only worry is the stuf for the air cleaner will not fit with the single bulge. You will need the double buldge for the 4 barrel, air cleaner and intake unless you shave the air cleaner base down to almost nothing. If you have the conversion without the TR8 subframe spacers you will most likely not fit under the single bulge bonnet and may not even with the double.

A Ramflo filter on a 4 barrel carb with Edelbrock Performer manifold fitted snugly beneath the single bulge bonnet on my my car.

Width and length dimensions are identitical.

I have seen V8 converted cars fitted with single bulge bonnets. I suspect all of these have lowered subframes using spacers between the top of subframe and underside of the chassis rails.

The following photo indicates that clearance may be a problem with SUs even with a double bulge bonnet, but perhaps this car does not have a lowered subframe?

A friend of mine had his FHC 7 Grinalled to a 3.9 V8 c/w Holley and deep pancake filter, all under a single bulge bonnet.

I don't know how the subframe was changed or modified.
