Electrical HELP!

Postby TriumphCMT » 21 Jul 2010 03:12

The white wire that comes off the ignition switch powers the dash and the coil. I've have disconnected the ignition switch completely and for some reason the white wire still has power.

There must be a short somewhere between the white wire and a purple or brown wire.

Without having to open up the entire wiring harness, how can I find the short??????

The white wire goes to a whole gambit of things. The instrument cluster, A/C blowers, fuel warning light delay unit, windshield wiper motor.

It also ties into a green wire through a fuse that powers the horn and a bunch of other things. It also goes to the coil. The relay that powers the A/C fans is always hot. You might start there. Pull the relays one at a time and see if you lose power to the white wire.

Do you have a wiring diagram? You can down load the ROM from my download site. TR7man.pdf

What problem are you having with your car? You are just 4-5 hours away.

Thanks, Rblackadar!

Great to hear from you again. I am just the steward of the documents. They are there for every TR7/TR8 owner to use. I remember a web site years ago about a guy building a 2+2 TR7. He was documenting every step. Then it just disappeared. Maybe we can keep all this information for the next generation of TR7/8 owners.

Well jclay, you were right. It was a relay problem. All my problems where coming from the starter relay!!!! I mixed the relays and put a different relay on the starter so the car would start but would keep the white wire hot!

All this nonsense from a stupid relay mistake!![xx(][xx(][xx(][xx(]

Hope this helps people in the future!
