well it was a nice day, actually felt up to working on the car, so thought would start with taking passenger seat out to clean floor panels before a coat of hammerite..... three bolts out fourth just chewed up........... needs drilling out....... so leave that for now and check out why a line of rust has appeared and a split in a layer of body filler between passenger door and wheelarch, well a quick tap reveals the truth, filler nearly a quarter inch thick and about 6 inches square covering a very badly repaired bottom panel which one of the PO's decided to braize on...[:(!][:(!]

just when you think your getting somewhere...........

No such thing a a few hours work on the car....unless you plan a wash and wax.[:)]

Nine times out of ten any previous fixes will be bodges. Merv's Law.

In a totaly rust free car three of the passenger seat's bolt were like new. The outside rear was rusted in and took a week of soaking and trying before it was freed. A total anomaly execept for the fact that if there are four bolts to undo one will be rusted in. Also Merv's Law.[:p]

ah been there car looked immaculate until i noticed a small lump on the cill, as you do i poked around a bit to find it was covered in fibreglass the last owner had made a very good job of covering up that the cill behind was absolutly shot and needless to say the other side was just as bad

Thankfully the inner cills were good, so a few hundred quid later it's all back like new NO BLOODY FIBREGLASS

[8 whole cylinders worth of punch to ram the world through the windshield and out the rear view mirror. Car & Driver]

it is so infuriating isnt it..... [:(!] but lacking a time machine to go back buy a new one and hide it like they did the de lorean in back to the future 3 so i know it will only of had me work on it, it carries on.....

decided today to try something else, so went to take drivers seat out... uncanny how mervs law works, yes, 3 bolts out nicely, the one in mid air so not in contact with anything to rust, solid and then sheered off.... but at least seat now out..... now thinking about what to put back in, original, mx5 ford probe or something else.....watch this space.....

well picked up remaining bits of carpet and took in the scene in front of me.... a light brown floor...... bit the bullet and let loose with drill and wire brush, and eventually left the floor more metallic in colour.......... and....... you may need to sit down here...... no holes...... found a few pop rivet heads but can see no visible botch repairs so think these are from a different repairer who may of just held a repair panel in place while welding it properly, i know i've used this method before where a lack of hands prevails....so after a coat of rust converter, i gave it a coat of hammerite, is it just me or does everyone love the smell of that stuff? and it is now, as i type this drying... pics will follow.

did then have to paint the railings as that was actually what the wife bought the paint for but hey, theres enough left..........

going to start work on some of the trim now to go back in, the blue is going i'm afraid all you origianaties out there, i cant help it i like black interiors.....[:D]

must admit also toying with the idea of fitting rectangular fixed headlights.... love pop up headlights but no matter what i do these ones just dont seem to behave..... anyone actually tried this on a 7?

interesting mod on the lights and very similar to what i was thinking.... tempted to find a scrap shell and hack half a nose cone off it to practise on......[:D]

Too much like a GM/Pontiac thing. Instead of people asking me "Is that a Dodge product?" they'll be asking "Is that made by GM?" I'd prefer the "glassed" over look but I think that's pretty much outlawed everywhere. Oh well, I guess I'll stick with the cute little eye lid pop ups. Unlike anything else out there and I've never had any problems with them.

its amusing listening to the comments when people walk past the car.... so far its been a fiat x19 a lotus and today it was the back to the future car..... [:p] cant wait to see what they mistake it for if i do do the fixed light mod and its actually one colour.....[:0]

Yea, it's going to be 94 degF tomorrow...and the basement is full of other projects/junk. Too hot to work on the TR...[:(]...too hot to motor around with no AC..[:(]..just damn.
