Ragtop-TOP rubber door tip ????

On the Ragtop
on the top of the triangular glass frame
,there is a small rubber piece
It's there I guess so you don't take an eye out when you open the door.

How do you stop it from squicking itself out everytime you lift the windows?????

I'm pretty sure those are riveted in. If the rivet is gone you can glue them.

All of mine I replaced....I rivited on after first applying liberal coat of 3M-trim/weatherstrip-adhesive to both the rubber unit and widow frame. Then supported with whatever I found laying around (masking tape, etc) untill the adhesive had thoroughly dried.

Granted, every one I installed on my past cars needed proper trimming and fitting before I glued/rivited the part on. Otherwise Id of ended up with what you are describing; wind up the window & glass pushes rubber unit almost out.

If yours is in good enuff shape and you can remove it without damaging it, Id try the procedure I just described. If you feel it will not come off without destroying it, just try feeding some trim & weatherstrip adhesive between the rubber and the metal frame and let dry over nite.

also isn't there a metal window stop bolted into the door to prevent the window rising too far

Hmmmmm Tryin to remember. But I think the window limit stop is incorporated in the widow-mechinizm itself (inside door). The rubber unit thingie is basically a weather seal.

There is a stop to prevent the window from winding up too far. The rubber tips are not riveted in they are glued in. (it's the window guide at rear of door that is riveted.) I have glued mine in with rubber cement but a more permanent solution would be something like Shoe Goo.

That would be correct, originally those rubber thingies were not rivited. However years ago when I ordered new ones, they came with a round-recess and a hole in the center of the recess (cannot remember if I got them from VicBrit or Rimmers, more likely Rimmers). It was my idea to rivit and glue them on my past and present wedges. Once trimmed, fitted, riveted and glued...never had a problem again with them either squirming out when winding up window or improper fit.

One note I must add is when I riveted them on, I also used small washer on eash rivet of each side, specifically made for rivets to increase the area of holding tension.

Mine had a self tapper through the hole into the frame. This is also shown in the Rimmer catalogue. Didn't work too well as the screw pulled through the rubber so I have glued it back, but you still need to keep an eye on it.

I agree-it`s a self-tapper originally, still a pain and marginally OK at doing the job-but that`s how it is on my car![;)]

Just check my car...your right it is a self tapper. Mine were split at the hole and wouldn't have held so I glued them in. It was a couple of years ago so I just forgot why I gued them in.[:I]

I always avoid making any changes, triming the new parts , Thinking that the designer made it as is for a good reason .
But it will fit better if i take a little out and glue it ,

I did originally think of Duck Tape .....
Glue will do.
