How many Southern Sky?

Does anyone know how many Southern Sky Special Editions were produced?

it is a nice roof , at the dealer we had put quite a few of those on Escorts and Tempo's back in the day....one client even had us put one on his Mustang (which admittedly was more of a horror, but he liked it)
Can't remember who made it, but it was our local trim-line jobber that did them for us.

"...only offered in the south eastern USA, Florida, Georgia, The Carolinas, Virginia and Maryland. The principal feature was a bronze-tinted glass sliding sunroof, allegedly specially designed to reduce turbulence and noise and to reflect heat. Factory air-conditioning was also usually fitted. Twin side stripes were added, running along the swage lines of the body, with the words 'Southern Skies' incorporated towards the rear. A circular decal incorporating a sun and a crescent moon appeared at the bottom of each front wing behind the wheel arch. The number of cars produced is unknown."

I don't think I would call Maryland the south east...maybe Mississippi.[:0]

Although Maryland stayed in the Union there was a large chunk with sympathies to the south as only 50% of it's black's were free. Even it's state song "Maryland My Maryland" said something about slaughtering those damn Yankees until it was modified to be more PC. So you could say it's head was in the north but it's heart was in the south.

the sunroof looks similar to the ones fitted to the peugeot 205 gtis... nice looking car tho....

You should try finding parts for one. My TR8FHC had one installed in Leonia, NJ before it was sent to the dealership in Denver. From Paul's attempts at accounting for all the TR8 FHC's, so far mine is the only one with this sliding glass roof. According to the manufacturer of the sliding glass roof, they were only produced for 2-3 years.

Those sliding roofs were first introduced in a May/June 1976 TSOA newsletter and were to be marketed first in the Central, Northeast and Northwest sales regions, then open to all other sales regions. The Southern Skies edition was solely a product of the Southeast sales region and the idea of Cary Cooper. Yet another "Special Edition" TR7. Apart from the special striping and badge, it was no different than any other TR7 Coupe with the same sliding glass roof.

I found some spare parts for my roof from a wrecked TR7 coupe in Massachusetts that was not a 'Southern Skies' special edition.
