Rear fog lights power supply

Postby macmattom » 18 May 2010 12:06

I have recently wired up my rear fog lights. Last week I tried them out, and they work fine: Ignition turned on, main lights on, fog lights work. Ignition on, side lights only, fog lights work fine. Here's the but.... Ignition on, no lights turned on, but fog lights still work fine. Even worse - ignition OFF, no lights on, but fog lights still work fine [:(].

Obviously I have a constant 12 V feed to the power side of the switch, so can anybody tell me what the rule in the UK is for rear fogs? Should they only come on when the headlights are on, or can they come on with side lights? This will determine where I splice my new feed from so they only come on with the correct comfiguration.

Cheers,

Mac.

Rear fog lights should work with headlights and high beam only ignition switch can be on or off

Rear fog lights should not come on with side lights only

Another thing if it is the original fog lights they are reversed wired

As in the live goes to the side of the bulb and it earth from the centre pin

I only noticed this when I was going to put led bulbs in to mine

And they wouldn't work
