I just had my DHC towed from where I had it in storage back to my driveway. I am not sure how my wife will respond when she gets home but with an impending promotion coming at work I am about to have some extra money so I decided what better time to start on the TR7. I will probably be swapping a good ole Rover V8 into it during the restoration so you should all get ready for lots of questions.

Oh, dear! From her point of view, I see some issues to be discussed.

1. Where does she park her car?
2. A project car should be kept INSIDE the garage, thus out of sight from the irritable neighbors.
3. A project car also tends to be more than a little unsightly and will trash up the looks of the house.
4. About the impending promotion, until it actually happens are you jumping the gun?
5. Since any car project costs buckets of money, have you considered that SHE might like to spend some of that cash on her projects around the house. Things like new carpet, or some plantation shutters for the windows, or painting the Living Room, or whatever else she has on her list?
6. Does she know the car was being brought home before you went and spent money on towing company?
7. Does she know about the big plans to make the car a hot rod?

I could go on, but the hope is you are getting the general idea of what to expect. Were I you, the towing company should take the car back to the storage lot now, let her find you mopping the floor or vacuuming the carpet with dinner on the stove when she gets in this afternoon. Later when she has eaten and relaxed would be a better time to bring up the subject of saving money on the storage bill by bringing your mental health rehabilitation car project into the cleaned out space in the garage next to her car.

If there's anything a woman detests it is when her man completely surprises her. Particularly when it involves something she should have a say in.

Congratulations!

Just like my mate Bill...his wife came home and found that the very old Nissan was now a Boxster...... 8 months later she noticed the Boxster had changed colour but she did not notice the "S" badge that had been added.

Took her a year before she would travel with him in the Boxster, I guess second wives are more tolerant.

I went with the "Always easier to ask forgiveness than to get pre-approval" strategy when it came to bringing it home. She actually wants the car running again also because it is what I was driving when I met her, although she has never ridden in the car because by the time when started dating I had purchased more reliable transportation. Mildred, the car will be in the garage as soon as I get a few items sent off to the local charity. You are quite correct that it can make the yard look junky so I am going to leave that to the guy across the street and his project car that lives in the driveway.

My wife was not too happy, when I bought my current car home,
perhaps because I had 2 other 7s, [both going] & it looked rough.
She could not see what a good body, & mechanicls it had, through
the crook paint.

Now the other 2 have gone, & this one looks great, she is reasonably
happy with it.

I also believe she thinks it was cheep. This is an impression I do
not wish to upset. She generally sees a new lounge suite, or some
such, when ever she looks at a car.

Well, it was cheep to buy, & it has probably cost less than buying a
new car, 8 years ago would have cost by now.

I find wives a bit like the tax man, they want as much of your money
as they can get, so just like the tax man, I believe, what they
don't know probably won't hurt them too much.

been there done that got the t shirt.... when i had a morris minor stripped to hot rod had grief off the wife, when my 205 convertible was being worked on for mot had the neighbours reporting it and had police council and then dvla turn up, but so far tr only brought complaints from the wife, the kids are moaning too but thats because they cant comprehend a project is not something to "rush through the next weekend and its finished", i set myself four years work at least on weekends and evenings, if i have to rush it it loses the hobby aspect, but bad as it looks iam making sure the tax and insurance is up to date to shut everyone up....[:D]

talking of which i think a need a major tidy up and look over it tomorrow to put it in for its mot next week....

Hi Odd, & congratulations on the 1000 posts.

Women think of money differently to men I think. I think it's a ying
yang thing.

My lady can happily spend the value of a couple of 7s, on a 3 week
trip to Thailand, but not on a car.

I will buy a car, which I have for years, but hate spending on a
hoilday, which only gives me photos. If I wanted to go to Thailand,
I'd rather buy a yacht, & sail there. Thay way I'd still have the
yacht at the end.

Fortunately, we don't have to agree with everything to be hapy.

Cobber, I'm worried about that revelation.

I went to see a mate who has just bought a 15M launch for his retirement pleasure. I found him busy scrubbing & sanding this diesel powered house happy as a sand boy. His son & girlfriend turned up & her first comment was "how can you find the time for a boat and all your cars?" That there is a wife in training.

My question would be, how do you find the money!
